Ink
INDUSTRIAL DESIGN | FURNITURE | 3D PRINTING
Ink was designed for the 2024 Layer Logic Competition hosted by MakeLab for the International Design Conference. Our submission won first place!
Development
We developed an interlocking series of connectors to keep all the parts in place, similar to overlapping flaps on a cardboard box. Inspired by the form of an octopus, the stool comprises of six legs the connect in two places to create the seat and support brace.
The exposed infill pattern is unique for each leg and engineered so that the stool meets the weight requirement while using less filament and no support material.
The Brief
MakeLab challenged everyone to design a stool made completely from 3D printing - no tools, no hardware, no parts allowed unless they are printed. The stool needed to be flat-packed, able to hold 250 lbs, and optimized for 3D printing.
